How to get to Taito Station Shinjuku

While I was in Tokyo for Golden Week I thought I’d take some pictures to show you guys how to get to the Taito Station in Shinjuku for purikura.

IMGA0026

This place is one of the test locations so you often get machines here a few months before they are released nationwide. Sometimes that means they have glitches or things that need improved but it’s still fun to try! You can tell the location test machines because they have a sign above them that says ロケテスト中 like this photo from before Essence was released…

First you need to get yourself to Shinjuku station. You can either use the JR and take the east exit. Or the metro and take exit B-13.

JR Shinjuku East Exit:

P1050064

There are two ways you can go but both end up in roughly the same place. First I’ll show you the three ways to get to the right street and at the end I’ll show you the way from there to avoid repeating myself!

Kabukicho way:

From the ticket gates ahead of you you’ll see an overhead sign. The up arrow is for Kabukicho

P1050065

P1050092

Go up the stairs on your left, it says Kabukicho above the stairs too.

P1050093

Exit to the street.

P1050094

You’ll see studio ALTA across from you. Turn to the left.

P1050095

The path curves around, follow it until you get to the big road and the signal.

P1050096

P1050097

P1050098

P1050099At this point you want to cross the road and go down the street straight in front of you. The building on the right is a fruit shop. You can now skip down to the last section of this post.

West Passage way:

As you leave the ticket gate you’ll see the overhead sign for the West passage

P1050065

P1050066

This takes you through Lumie Est, you can see the Samantha Vega shop in the picture go past that, keeping it on your right.

P1050067

From there you can see an overhead sign for ALTA and Kabuki-cho. Go up the stairs.

P1050068

This brings you out to the general meeting/smoking area. Hosts tend to gather here before work too.

P1050070

Go left around the trees And you’ll see ALTA opposite you. Cross the street where all the people are.

P1050071

P1050072

The colourful sign is a fruit shop go towards it and down that street. You can now skip to the last section in this post.

Tokyo Metro

Leave from exit B-13.

P1050083

P1050084

You’ll see the basement entrance to ALTA in front of you, turn left and go up the stairs.

P1050085

P1050087

P1050088

When you get to the street you’ll see the JR station in front of you, turn right here.

P1050089

Walk a little way until you get to the first street where you can turn right. There’s a fruit shop on the corner. (It’s closed in the picture!)

P1050090

P1050091

Now you can skip to the next section!

From the fruit shop:

All the ways end up at the fruit shop and from here it’s really simple! Go straight down the street.

P1050073

Soon, on your left, you’ll see Okadaya. This is a great shop for make-up, lashes, wigs, stage make-up, fabrics and crafts. Love it!

P1050074

Keep going past the ABC-mart.

P1050075

And you’ll see/hear Taito Station on your right. Purikura is on the 5th floor and there’s an elevator inside. In the picture you can also see the Donki  (Don Quiote) across the street. And down that street is Kabuki-cho.

P1050076

Here’s the Google Map.

And I also made a video of the way from the JR station using the Kabuki-cho way, in case that helps or if you just want to see the sights and sounds of Japan!
